When Mitie Engineering were awarded the contract to light up the hotel and main building at Fort Dunlop for Urban Splash in Birmingham they needed to find a way to speed up containment for electrical wiring, fire alarm cables and trunking.
Their initial idea was to support cables using traditional methods which would involve lots of drilling and take ages per installation. This would obviously have serious time implications, so they turned to Spit to find a way of speeding up and simplifying the process.
The solution was the Spit Pulsa 700E nailing system. By using the cordless gas nailer they were able to significantly reduce installation time to a matter of seconds per section.
Another benefit of using the Spit Pulsa 700E is the ability to work for 297 minutes without a break while still complying with HAV requirements. So not only could Mitie’s operators work much faster but they could also work much longer too.
As well as the tool and nails, Spit have also provided a range of electrical accessories including Clip Elec and rod hangers.
Mitie have now finished their work on the hotel and will continue their association with Spit on the main building. When completed, Fort Dunlop will provide world class offices, retail and leisure space in a contemporary environment whilst retaining much of the original façade of this iconic Birmingham landmark.
Brought to life by the award-winning developer, Fort Dunlop will enjoy a phased opening from the Spring, with a grand opening ceremony planned for the end of 2006.
